About Delaware County

Welcome > Local Info > Chester County and Delaware County Information ...

We proudly serve Media, Rose Valley, Swarthmore, Wallingford and all of Delaware and Chester Counties in Pennsylvania.

MEDIA

Known by locals as " Everyone's Hometown ". A friendly atmosphere abounds in this town that is also the County Seat. Media is a walker-friendly town and you will enjoy the brick sidewalks and the shadetree-lined streets. People say "Hello" to each other on the street. Media is also the last suburban town with a trolley running down its main street. It has additional public transportation that serves the entire county as well as service into Philadelphia. A centrally located library, parks, houses of worship, and theatre place them all within walking distance for residents. This charming, old fashioned town has all the modern day, contemporary convienences and culture you could desire such as a fine shopping district that includes stores, services and an excellent and exciting restaurant scene. A 20 minute drive to the Philadelphia airport and access to all major highways-This makes MEDIA a wonderful place to live.

ROSE VALLEY

Rose Valley is a community of one-of-a-kind historic Arts & Crafts homes where flora and fauna flourish on the outskirts of Media. The community of Rose Valley was conceived by a designer of country estates, William Price as an Arts & Crafts movement treasure. Here you will find a suburban gem with no sidewalks or stores but rather quaint lanes and private drives. No two homes are alike and many sit on ˝ to one acre or more. Nature Trails run through Rose Valley and the community has areas protected by a Nature Conservancy: The Saul Wildlife Sanctuary and the Longpoint Wildlife Sanctuary totaling 25 acres. Also in Rose Valley you will find The Hedgerow Theater another architectural gem which stages some 20 adult and children's productions each year. The School in Rose Valley, a private progressive school, calls Rose Valley home. Old Union Methodist Church the only house of worship within the boundaries of the borough has a historically significant church and cemetery where Soldiers from every war since the Revolutionary War are buried. Rose Valley is truly a suburban oasis with no highways running through it yet it is easily accessible to major arteries, and is 20 minutes to Philadelphia and the airport. The Moylan Train Station is where commuters depart for trips downtown. All this and the nationally recognized and award winning Wallingford-Swarthmore School District.

SWARTHMORE

Located 11 miles southwest of Philadelphia this wonderful suburban town is home to one of the finest liberal arts schools in the country, Swarthmore College. Residents find Swarthmore desirable because you can walk to the town center for shopping, activities, dining and the train to downtown. Located just outside Media with easy access to all major highways including 1-95 and 1-476( the BLUE ROUTE). The Philadelphia airport is a short 15 minute drive. Children attend the award winning Wallingford-Swarthmore School District.

WALLINGFORD

Home to the nationally recognized WALLINGFORD-SWARTHMORE SCHOOL DISTRICT. A sister town to Swarthmore, Wallingford is a close-knit community lying just 15 miles southwest of Philadelphia in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Our 13,000 residents live in a 4.6 square mile area and enjoy outstanding schools, attractive neighborhoods, convenient public transportation, inviting public parks and walking trails, and an array of nearby social, cultural and athletic activities. Wallingford's parks offer some some of the finest soccer and baseball fields in the county as well as inviting spots for picnics under the shade of stately old trees.

The TAYLOR ARBORETUM Located on 30 acres along Ridley Creek is a sanctuary for plants and animals. It also provides environmental education opportunities, as well as a peaceful setting where visitors can leisurely explore and enjoy nature. Real Estate Tips

Financing Your Home >Finicky Financiers

Buying an old house to fix up has an attraction for many people. If you can find a house with charm and character, a renovation may enable you to create just the living environment that you want. You should start with a good real estate agent to help you locate the right house and recommend lenders who make both acquisition and construction loans.

Financing a renovation is perhaps the most difficult part of the whole project, especially if the house needs extensive work. Few banks will make these loans to people who are not professional developers. You should prepare for your loan application by having a written proposal. It helps to have an engineer's report or architectural plans and to include estimates from contractors covering the costs and timetables for the work to be done. Your real estate agent can help you put together a market analysis of the neighborhood to show that you will not be over-improving the property compared with other homes in the area.
